Using the family vocabulary sheet, Ask your partner, "who is in your family?": 你家有谁?(nǐ jiā yǒu sheí?) Then write the answer in the comment section below. First write their name, then write what family members they have using the following sentence pattern: LAOSHI家有爸爸,妈妈,两个弟弟,一个哥哥, 一个狗。 LAOSHI jīa yǒu bàbà, māma, liǎng ge dìdì, yī ge gē, yī ge gǒu.
FALL SEMESTER PROJECT
For this project, students first wrote together in groups to write a short script based on school related vocabulary. Then they filmed them acting out the script using Ipads. Last, they edited their I-movie adding Chinese subtitles as well as silly special effects.
For this project, students first used their I-pads to type a Chinese "digital book" introducing each member of the family. Then they used the I-movie app to make an interactive slideshow based on the book. It was a rigorous process that allowed them to integrate technology and their language skills, and I am very impressed with the final product and their overall hard-work. This project they did completely by themselves, except for some pronunciation guidance from their instructor.

The students took a “selfie” with a family member (or their classroom teacher ) using their Ipads. In Mandarin class, they used the “Chatterpix Kids” app to create a talking picture that introduced their family member using the Mandarin sentence patterns they have been learning this month.
