5.13.2018: Fifth Grade Trip to Flushing Chinatown
Saturday, May 12th was our second annual North Shore FLES-Mandarin Trip to Flushing Chinatown. Students, parents and teachers had a culturally, linguistically and gastronomically enriching time. As the weather was rainy, the tour was confined to the downtown area and the New World Mall, the shopping, culture and food center of Flushing Chinatown. We started with a huge Dim Sum banquet on the top of the mall, where many families had their first experience eating the tasty Southern Chinese brunch-style food, which is wheeled out on carts in small portions. After brunch, we headed to the second floor of the mall where the students participated in a scavenger hunt, searching out the grocery store for unique Chinese imported food items and produce. We were more than impressed that the students completed the scavenger hunt quickly and thoroughly, finding the location, price, English name, and filling out the sheet accordingly. Last, students tasted the ever-popular Bubble Tea, a milk-tea that contains chewy Tapioca Balls. Students relished the sweet flavor of the tea, the cherry on top of a fun day in Chinatown. Please see the pictures below!
